Why Do Gauges Need to be Calibrated Every Year

  • To ensure accuracy and reliability: Even durable gauges can lose accuracy over time due to normal wear and tear. Calibration corrects any drift and verifies the gauge is providing correct readings.

  • For safety: Inaccurate readings can lead to dangerous situations. For example, a gauge that fails to show an overpressure condition can result in catastrophic equipment failure and pose a risk to personnel.

  • To meet regulatory compliance: Many industries have legal and industry standards that mandate regular calibration for safety and quality assurance. Non-compliance can lead to penalties.

  • To maintain process efficiency: Incorrect pressure readings can cause a process to run inefficiently, leading to wasted materials, energy, or poor product quality.

  • To prevent costly damage: A malfunctioning gauge can lead to unexpected pressure issues, which may cause unscheduled maintenance, equipment breakdowns, and costly repairs
